What is Flecainide Acetate generic? Tambocor Flecainide is used to treat certain types of serious (possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat (such as persistent ventricular tachycardia and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia). Tambocor heart medication is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. It is also used to prevent certain types of irregular heartbeat from returning (such as atrial fibrillation). Moreover, Flecainide is known as an anti-arrhythmic drug. Tambocor and alcohol work by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Treating an irregular heartbeat can decrease the risk for blood clots, and this effect can reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke.
Older adults should discuss the risks and benefits of Tambocor and alcohol with their doctor or pharmacist, as well as other effective and possibly safer treatments.
How to use
- Take Tambocor Flecainide by mouth with or without food, usually twice daily or as directed by your doctor.
- Tambocor and alcohol dosage is based on your age, medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking.
Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
Use Tambocor heart medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed Tambocor heart medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including new or worsening symptoms of heart failure (such as shortness of breath, swelling ankles/feet, unusual tiredness, unusual/sudden weight gain).
Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including faster/more irregular heartbeat, severe dizziness, fainting.
A very serious allergic reaction to Tambocor and alcohol is rare. However, get medical help right away.
Warnings & Precautions
- Before taking Tambocor Flecainide, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it.
- Before using Tambocor heart medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.
- Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely.
- Limit alcoholic beverages.
- Flecainide may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation).
Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of Tambocor and alcohol, especially QT prolongation (see above).
During pregnancy, Tambocor heart medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Tambocor Flecainide passes into breast milk. However, Tambocor and alcohol is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
