What is Verapamil?

What is Verapamil? Verapamil is used for treating high blood pressure. Verapamil Hydrochloride 120 mg Lowers high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. It is also used to prevent chest pain (angina). Verapamil for migraine belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. Verapamil headache works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

It may help to increase your ability to exercise and decrease how often you may get angina attacks. Verapamil is also used to control your heart rate if you have a fast/irregular heartbeat (such as atrial fibrillation). It helps to lower the heart rate, helping you to feel more comfortable and increase your ability to exercise.

How to use

  • Take Verapamil Hydrochloride 120 mg by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor.
  • Usually 3 or 4 times daily.
  • Verapamil headache dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Use Verapamil for migraine regularly to get the most benefit from it.
  • To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

For the treatment of high blood pressure, it may take a week before you get the full benefit of this drug. Keep taking Verapamil Hydrochloride 120 mg even if you feel well. To prevent chest pain, it is very important to take this medication regularly as prescribed. This drug should not be used to treat chest pain when it occurs. Do not stop taking Verapamil headache without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse (for example, your blood pressure readings remain high or increase or your chest pain occurs more often).

Side effects

  • Dizziness
  • slow heartbeat
  • constipation
  • nausea
  • headache
  • tiredness

If any of these Verapamil Hydrochloride 120 mg effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

To lower your risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed Verapamil headache because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Some serious and rare side effects

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including

  • severe dizziness
  • fainting
  • new or worsening symptoms of heart failure
  • very slow heartbeat

Verapamil headache may rarely cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease. Get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of liver damage, such as:

  • nausea/vomiting that doesn’t stop
  • loss of appetite
  • stomach/abdominal pain yellowing eyes/skin
  • dark urine

A very serious allergic reaction to Verapamil for migraine is rare. However, get medical help right away.

Warnings & Precautions

  1. Before taking Verapamil Hydrochloride 120 mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it.
  2. Before using Verapamil for migraine, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.
  3. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely.
  4. Limit alcoholic beverages.
  5. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use.

Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of Verapamil for migraine, especially constipation, or swelling ankles/feet.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Verapamil for migraine passes into breast milk but is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
